The Other Yoga — Beyond the Postures – Recording

$145.00$250.00

The Yoga teachers of today are likely to assert that what they teach has a history that goes back millennia. Yet what was taught in India a mere 75 years ago was only remotely like what the contemporary western teacher offers. In fact, the Yoga Sutra, a text that is widely considered to be the most accurate and succinct expression of the essence of yoga, devotes a mere three verses (of the 195 that make up the Yoga Sutra) to the asanas (postures) that most yoga classes spend most of their time on.

So, what is this “Other Yoga” that the vast bulk of the Yoga Sutra describes and explains? Often mentioned in passing, or referred to as authority, it has been explained in countless commentaries for hundreds of years, but those commentaries mostly remain as cryptic and mysterious as the verses themselves.

This workshop, based on new and more accessible commentaries will uncover this neglected and powerful science that has guided the spiritual path of aspirants on their journey for eons. It will lay out the major stages of the practice, explain the rationale for their use. It will “demystify” basic themes, avoiding — or explaining — Sanskrit terms that are often stumbling blocks for western students.
